Special baggage handling fees
Below is baggage fee information relating to special items and oversized, overweight and excess baggage. All fees shown below are for one direction of travel only, and apply only when checking in with United. When checking in with a United codeshare partner, please contact that carrier regarding its oversized, overweight and excess baggage policies.
Please note:
- If an item fits the criteria for more than one of the fees below, then multiple fees may apply.
- Prices shown below exclude travel to Brazil. For travel to or from Brazil, please see the Brazil baggage page.
- For fee information relating to travel wholly within Asia, please contact United Reservations at 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331) within the U.S., or from outside the U.S. call your local reservations office.

5Travel from North America to Japan: For tickets purchased on or before April 9, 2010, the charge for excess or oversized baggage is 84 USD/CAD; bicycle is 60 USD/CAD; snow/water skiing or snowboarding equipment is 28 USD/CAD; surfboard over 108 in. (277 cm) is 168 USD/CAD; surfboard under 108 in. (277 cm), luge board or wake board is 84 USD/CAD.
